As part of organic lawn care weed control is the biggest challenge. I have eradicated nearly every weed from the back lawn. I usually do a 5 minute walk through and pull any weeds I see once a week. For proper weed control you want to stay on top of the weeds. The corn gluten meal should prevent new weeds from germinating. Existing weeds should not be allowed to go to seed so that they do not return in the same area next year. Herbicides should be used as a last resort or to gain initial control of the weeds.

This weekend I top dressed my lawn with three yards of compost from the Natural Gardener. This covered about 1/4 - 1/2" thick across my lawn.
Did you know that compost can save up to 50% of the water needed to keep you lawn alive? It improves the soil and nourishes the lawn. I highly recommend this for any lawn. It is well worth every penny spent on the compost and installation.
I also spread corn gluten meal. I spread at a rate of 10 lbs per 1000 square feet. Corn gluten inhibits germination of new weeds and fertilizes the lawn at the same time with a 9-0-0 ratio, basically just nitrogen. The best control against weeds is a thick healthy lawn.
I have maintained a green lawn, free of chemicals for 16 months when I first installed the lawn. I will post photos shortly.
